Castles, Coastlines & Quick Times!
Bamburgh's half marathon returns this October...
Bamburgh Castle has to be one of the most striking landmarks in the UK with its lofty position over the sweeping golden sands of the Northumberland coast. It should come as no surprise then that the Run Northumberland Castles Half Marathon which starts and finishes in Bamburgh village - is a bit of a 'stunner'.
Taking place on 23 October, the fact that the race hasn't featured on the race calendar since 2020 means demand for places at this scenic half is likely to be high so be quick to enter and you can benefit from 20% off if you enter during August by using code SUMMER20.
The course is slightly undulating with lots of flat sections in the beautiful Northumberland countryside while going on a loop of closed roads between Bamburgh and North Sunderland. Runners will enjoy views out to the Farne Islands, Holy Island and the North Sea.
The slightly undulating route ensures this event is perfect for runners of all abilities. Organisers had this to say: "Come for the historic location, finisher's goodies, friendly atmosphere and to spot some incredible castles."
Back in 2020 Ali Bailey of Gateshead Harriers & AC blasted through the wind to win in 1:10:51. A gap of over 6 minutes separated him from Adam Gray of Penicuik Harriers, second in 1:16:48, with Andrew Heppenstall of Penistone Footpath Runners & AC third in 1:18:25.
Jacky Murdy of South Shields Harriers & AC was the women’s winner in 1:33:44. Kim Simpson of Gateshead Harriers & AC was second in 1:35:05 and Lisa Baston of Alnwick Harriers third in 1:38:02.
