The Run Northumberland Castles Half Marathon is a closed road race based in the historic coastal village of Bamburgh. Bamburgh Castle provides an impressive backdrop to the event, with the route heading through the surrounding Northumberland countryside and showcasing the area's distinctive coastal landscape.
Runners follow a rolling loop of closed roads between Bamburgh and North Sunderland, with long flat sections mixed with gentle climbs and descents. Open countryside accompanies much of the route, while clear conditions can bring views towards the Farne Islands, Holy Island and across the North Sea.
The fully closed road course gives runners plenty of space to settle into their pace and enjoy the scenery without traffic. With its combination of rural roads, coastal views and the imposing Bamburgh Castle near the heart of the event, the race provides a memorable setting for a Northumberland half marathon. Finishers receive a medal and T-shirt after completing the course.
