Jarrow 10K and Junior Race returns on Sunday 18 October 2026 with an unusual format designed to give runners at different levels the opportunity to race hard on a flat, fast course in South Tyneside.
Held in partnership with Jarrow and Hebburn Athletics Club, the 10K starts and finishes on the athletics track at Monkton Stadium. The fully measured, road closed course uses a simple two lap format, with runners leaving the track for wide tarmac sections before returning to the stadium for the finish.
What makes Jarrow particularly interesting is the split start. The A race begins at 9:00am and is for runners targeting a sub 40 minute 10K, while the B race follows at 9:15am for those expecting to run over 40 minutes. The Junior Race gets underway at 10:45am.
The 10K is part of the Top Flight Race Series and attracts leading athletes, but the day is not exclusively about the sharp end of the field. Developing club runners and newcomers are also encouraged to take part, giving Jarrow the feel of a serious race within a welcoming club environment.
Kilometres are marked around the course, with chip timed results, free race photographs and a themed medal included for finishers. Category prizes will also reward the leading performances.
For anyone with a 10K target this autumn, Jarrow offers something refreshingly straightforward: a measured flat course, closed roads and plenty of runners around you with the same intention of seeing just how quickly they can go.
