Haltemprice 10K returns on Sunday 25 October, continuing a road racing tradition in East Yorkshire that stretches back to 1987.
The established 10K starts and finishes on South Ella Way in Kirk Ella, with Race HQ at nearby Haltemprice Leisure Centre. From the start, runners head through the attractive village of West Ella before tackling an undulating loop around Swanland and returning towards Kirk Ella.
That combination of village roads, countryside scenery and a few changes in elevation gives Haltemprice a different character from the flat 10K courses often associated with this part of Yorkshire. The roads are closed for the race, allowing runners to concentrate on finding their rhythm through a course that offers enough of a challenge to keep experienced competitors interested.
Its longevity is perhaps the biggest part of the story. First staged in 1987, Haltemprice has become one of East Yorkshire's longest established running events. Generations of local runners have consequently encountered the race, whether chasing a fast 10K, testing themselves on its undulations or simply enjoying an autumn morning of road racing.
Race numbers and timing chips are collected on the day at Haltemprice Leisure Centre, with runners then making their way to the start area on South Ella Way ahead of the 9:00am start.
Running events inevitably change over the years, but surviving for close to four decades says plenty about Haltemprice 10K. On 25 October, another field of runners will add their names to a story that started back in 1987.
