Only two months left to Great South Run weekend

Still time to secure your number for the South's greatest 10-miler

It's great. It's in the South. It's the Great South Run and there are only two months to race day! The South's biggest and best weekend of running for all ages and abilities makes its glorious return on 16th - 17th October and you can still be part of this huge event.

This year is all about the Great comeback after a year's absence for so many events. And the October date has allowed much more of what we love about Great South Run to return. Saturday's highlight for the grown-ups is the Great South Run 5K, while the kids will be tested over their own 2.5K (Junior 9-15 years) or 1.5K (Mini 3-8 years) courses.

Witness the unconfined joy on the face of the accompanied youngster competing in a previous Mini Great South Run (pictured above). You can make Great South Run a family event and get the kids started on their own running adventures by entering them in the Junior or Mini Great South Run on Saturday 16th October.

Then there is the challenge of the 31st Great South Run over 10 miles, rather than the all too familiar half marathon distance, on Sunday to complete a brilliant weekend on the bracing Hampshire coast.

If you are feeling a bit race rusty then the Great South Run Solo challenge is your first port of call. This eight-week training challenge is designed to get you race-ready and it starts on Monday (23rd August). It normally costs £15 to join but if you have an entry in Great South Run this drops to £12.50.

If you'd like some company from your company colleagues then consider the Engie Business Challenge that creates a level playing field for all local businesses, with categories for Small, Medium, and Large firms in male, female and mixed teams.

The greatest reward in taking part will always be the sense of achievement as you cross the finish line, but a shiny new medal, snazzy finisher's t-shirt, and finisher’s bag filled with goodies will also honour your achievement at the end of the run.

Whether you do it for the challenge, to fundraise for charity, or simply for fun, take your place on the Great South Run start line and be part of something really special. Just visit the Great South Run website here to sign up
