Hot Performances In Edinburgh

Runners were challenged by both distance and heat at the weekend's Scottish Half Marathon and 10K races...

More than 4,800 runners took to the streets of East Lothian on Sunday for the Scottish Half Marathon, with high temperatures adding to the challenge of the 13.1-mile race and associated 10K.

Supporters lined the route to cheer on the field, which included thousands raising money for charity as well as athletes chasing fast times. The day began with the 10K event, starting and finishing at Musselburgh Racecourse via Prestonpans. Jordan Cruickshank was first home in 31:05, with Aoife Carroll the leading woman in 37:13.

The half marathon was scheduled to begin at 11am from Meadowmill Sports Centre but was delayed by bus transport issues. Once underway, runners followed the A198 through Longniddry, turned into the grounds of Gosford House and then headed back west along the coast road towards Cockenzie, Port Seton and Prestonpans High Street before finishing at Musselburgh Racecourse.

The heat proved a factor, with temperatures peaking at 24°C during the afternoon, but there were still impressive performances. James Donald of Dundee Hawkhill Harriers won the men’s race in 1:08:42, while Louise Small of Aldershot Farnham & District claimed the women’s title in 1:12:42.

A total of 4,887 runners crossed the finish line, welcomed by crowds of friends, family and locals. Next year’s Scottish Half Marathon is already scheduled for 16 August 2026, with entries now open.
