Glamis Castle

Glowing In Glamis

Experience the grounds of the historic Glamis Castle in a whole new way...

With the sun still shining and summer in full swing (at least for now), it might feel too soon to be thinking about dark evenings, but one of Scotland’s most magical night runs is already on the horizon. The Glamis Glow Run returns on 18 October following a successful debut last year, offering runners the chance to experience the grounds of the historic Glamis Castle in a whole new way.

Participants can choose between a 5K or 10K route, both starting in front of the illuminated castle before following a glowing trail through the surrounding estate. The course loops back to finish beneath the castle’s towers, where food, refreshments and a finisher’s medal await. Organisers promise even more lighting installations this year to dazzle runners along the way, with glow-in-the-dark t-shirts also making a return.

The event welcomes trail runners of all levels, from seasoned athletes to first-time night runners, and is being staged in partnership with Glamis Castle. Known as the ancestral seat of the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne since 1372, the castle’s rich history includes royal connections, literary fame through Shakespeare’s Macbeth, and visits from Mary, Queen of Scots and James V.

With its mix of history, atmosphere and night-time spectacle, the Glamis Glow Run offers a fantastic way to celebrate the darker nights of autumn.
