Tough Half's 2025 Comeback!

Tough half marathon makes its return this November...

The much-loved Glen Clova Half Marathon will make its return on 8 November after adverse weather forced the cancellation of last year’s race. Known for its picturesque but testing route and unpredictable late-autumn weather, the event is a firm favourite for many runners looking to round off their season.

Organised by Forfar Road Runners, the race follows a circular anticlockwise loop of the glen, starting and finishing at the Clova Hotel. The undulating route offers plenty of scenic views, but conditions can vary dramatically, with everything from crisp sunshine to sideways rain, ice and snow possible on the day.

Finishers will receive a race goody bag with snacks and a Glen Clova Half Marathon mug, plus free hot soup and tea or coffee courtesy of the Clova Hotel. Bacon, egg or sausage rolls will also be available for purchase before the start, making it a popular social occasion as well as a competitive challenge.

The event comes with a strict three-hour cut-off and is not recommended for novice runners and organisers advise participants to come prepared for all weathers, as the exposed course can make conditions feel harsher.

The last edition of the race took place in 2023, with Lewis Rodgers of Fife AC taking the win in 1:08:32 and clubmate Rhona Van Rensburg the first female home in 1:28:05. With just over 200 runners that year, and a history of selling out quickly, organisers are encouraging early entries for 2025.
