The AJ Bell Great South Run is an iconic 10 mile road race through Portsmouth, known for its lively atmosphere, coastal setting and enthusiastic local support. Starting near Avenue De Caen on Southsea Common, the route takes runners past some of the city's best known landmarks before returning towards the seafront.
The flat and fast course passes Spinnaker Tower, Portsmouth Harbour, the Historic Dockyard and HM Naval Base before continuing through residential streets. Runners then return to the coast past the D Day Memorial and Canoe Lake, joining East Esplanade for the final beachside stretch towards Southsea Castle.
Music, entertainment and cheering crowds add to the atmosphere throughout the event, with several start waves helping runners settle into their pace. Finishers are rewarded with a medal and T-shirt after completing one of the UK's best known 10 mile races.
