Buxton Half Marathon

This Race is at its Peak!

One of the best and toughest half marathons in the country is back next month...

The Buxton Half Marathon is one of those ‘must do’ races, mainly for the scenery which is worth the pain of the hills. It’s a well organised and marshalled event by Buxton AC which attracts a good field of runners who are keen to test themselves on the tough course. This year will mark the 42nd outing for the event which will take place on Sunday 26 May.

The single lap route starts at Buxton’s Opera House and takes in some of the stunning Peak District countryside before returning and finishing in Buxton’s beautiful Pavilion Gardens. It's uphill from the start for three miles towards Axe Edge and surrounding countryside that will look magnificent on a sunny day....fingers crossed!

The ascent is followed by a long descent down country lanes with the chance to turn over the legs whilst admiring Chrome Hill and Parkhouse Hill. Tackle a few more lumps and bumps before a dash for the finish and cheers from crowds in Pavilion Gardens. There are three water stations along the route and more at the finish.

Organisers say: "Sign up and enjoy one of the most scenic and challenging Half Marathon routes in the UK and enjoy the friendly welcome and support. You will experience a brilliant atmosphere running on the beautiful scenic roads of the Peaks.

Post race there are a number of excellent food and drink vendors at the Pavilion Gardens so plenty of opportunity to replace the calories afterwards or for friends and family to enjoy whilst you run.

All finishers will receive an event memento, which this year will be a branded Buxton Half beer from Peak Ales.
