Record Ballot For London 2025
Two more 'world records' for the TCS London Marathon ...
An astonishing and world record-breaking 840,318 people from the UK and across the globe have applied in the public ballot for a place in the 45th TCS London Marathon to be held on Sunday 27 April 2025. The previous world record was 578,304 for the 2024 race. The 2024 marathon also set a new world record for the biggest annual one-day fundraising event, with more than £67 million already raised from this year’s event.
The total number of UK applications for 2025 was 672,631. The gender split was 338,549 applications from men (50.33%); 329,793 from women (49.03%) and 4,288 (0.64%) from non-binary applications. There were a further 167,687 applications from non-UK residents in the international ballot.
Hugh Brasher, Event Director for the TCS London Marathon, said: “This is an absolutely phenomenal total. Furthermore, the increase in applications from women, up from around 43% last year to 49% this year, is exceptional and takes us close to parity for applications from men and women for the first time.
“Marathon Day is always an extraordinary and inspirational day when we celebrate the very best of humanity. The unique camaraderie of the event and the amazing support from the huge crowds show London at its best and this year, in a world beset by many challenges, it felt like those magical days of London 2012 when joy and love were everywhere.
“The 2024 TCS London Marathon on 21 April was the biggest in our history with more than 53,700 finishers and has already raised a world record-breaking £67 million for charities. More than 12,900 children took part in the mass TCS Mini London Marathon the day before and hundreds of thousands of children across the UK are now doing their Mini Marathon in their schools. We work to inspire activity in people of all ages and abilities and these astonishing record-breaking numbers show how the TCS London Marathon does that and how many people want to be part of it.”
Enthuse, the official online fundraising partner of the TCS London Marathon, has announced that £27 million has been raised on its platform, while £40 million has been donated via JustGiving. This means the 2024 event has already beaten the world record of £66.4 million set at the 2019 London Marathon.
Chester Mojay-Sinclare, founder and chief executive of Enthuse, the official online fundraising partner of London Marathon Events, said: “What an incredible event and a brilliant day with such a huge amount raised for good causes. This is the third year we have been the official partner for the TCS London Marathon and it’s incredible to see the growth over that time – our fundraising total of £27 million for the event, so far, is more than 200% higher than in our first year. It’s such a special day for the sector and we’re delighted for all the charities that will benefit from the public’s generosity. We’re already looking forward to the 2025 event.”
