2026 AJ Bell Great Birmingham Run Medal

Birmingham Medal Strikes The Right Note

Enter the May event to earn one of the city’s most music inspired medals yet...

The medal for the 2026 AJ Bell Great Birmingham Run has been revealed, and organisers say this year’s design strikes all the right notes ahead of race day on Sunday 3 May.

Blending bold purple tones with vinyl inspired detailing, the new medal pays tribute to Birmingham’s architecture, culture, canals and world changing music heritage. The circular design features grooves reminiscent of a record, with 13 lines etched into the face to represent the event distance and the city’s enduring influence on the global music scene.

Purple was chosen as a nod to Birmingham’s cultural identity, from heavy metal pioneers Black Sabbath to the city’s chocolate making legacy, while a subtle gradient effect reflects the waterways that weave through the city centre. The background pattern draws inspiration from Birmingham’s distinctive architecture, and the reverse carries a three dimensional embossed bull in homage to the iconic Bullring. Organisers say the overall design wraps in visual references to the landmarks and character that define the city.

The Midlands’ biggest annual running event will once again see thousands take to the streets for either the half marathon or 10K, raising significant sums for charity along the way. Both races start in Centenary Square and pass key landmarks including the Jewellery Quarter, St Paul’s Square, the Mailbox, Grand Central at New Street Station, St Martin’s Church, Southside and Digbeth.

Half marathon runners will head further into south Birmingham, taking in Cannon Hill Park, Selly Park and the area around Edgbaston Stadium, before rejoining the 10K route for a revamped city centre finish. The closing stretch will sweep past the curves of the Selfridges Building, along Jennens Road and into Aston University’s event village.
