First Look At Birmingham 2026 Championship Medals
Championship medals unveiled in Birmingham...
Organisers of the Birmingham 2026 European Athletics Championships have revealed the official gold, silver and bronze medals that will be awarded to Europe's leading athletes this summer.
The Championships will take place at Alexander Stadium from 10 to 16 August and will mark a historic milestone as the first time in the event's 93 year history that the European Athletics Championships have been staged in the United Kingdom.
More than 1,600 athletes from 48 nations are expected to compete across a week of track and field action, with medals to be decided during seven evening sessions as well as the road events taking place throughout the Championships.
The newly unveiled medals have been designed to reflect both the competition and its host city. Crafted from anodised aluminium with a brass centre plated in Birmingham's famous Jewellery Quarter, the medals feature an outer ring representing the amphitheatre of supporters inside Alexander Stadium. The centre design symbolises the select group of athletes who will reach the podium.
On the reverse, the medals incorporate imagery inspired by Birmingham's culture, heritage and architecture, creating a lasting tribute to the host city for those fortunate enough to stand on the podium.
The Championships are expected to attract many of Europe's biggest athletics stars as they target major honours during the 2026 season. For British athletics fans, the event presents a rare opportunity to watch continental championship competition on home soil.
Alexander Stadium, which underwent extensive redevelopment ahead of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, will provide the backdrop for what promises to be one of the biggest athletics events ever staged in the UK.
With the countdown continuing towards August, the unveiling of the medals offers a tangible reminder of what athletes will be striving for when competition begins in Birmingham. For some, it will represent the chance to add a European title to their achievements. For others, it could be the moment they announce themselves on one of athletics' biggest stages.
