The School Run Can Be Fun!

Take on this June trail challenge in West Yorkshire...

There's an event in West Yorkshire that gives new meaning to the school run! Summer Wine Trail's The School Run is a 'local classic' that winds its way around the stunning Digley Reservoir and up to Holme School (hence the name). Taking place on 18 June this year, there's still time to sign up for this challenging, but scenic 6.7 miler. As the organisers say: "School Runs have never been easy, have they?"

Beginning in the spacious field above Digley Reservoir near Holmfirth, with stunning views of the Pennines, the race starts on a wide bridleway and heads out on the trails before descending to Bilberry Reservoir. Runners will then 'enjoy' a climb to the village of Holme before descending back to Digley by road. There is then one loop of Digley reservoir and a final climb from the quarry to the finish field. Organisers say that the course is about 90% trails with a downhill road section in the middle and "a lovely little hill at the end!"

Summer Wine Trails has been organising tough trail races around the stunning Holme Valle since 2014. They told runABC: "What motivates our runners? A warm welcome, friendly volunteers and the best medals we can find. All our events are hilly (sorry not sorry)."

If a June event seems just too soon to contemplate then one of the organisers other events for 2022 may be worth considering, with The Hepworth Trail scheduled for 20 July and the Stairway To Heaven a little later in the year on 1 October.

Both these events offer a similarly scenic course with the Hepworth Trail promising 'five miles(ish) of steep and challenging running starting and finishing in Hepworth. Beers after.' and  October's event billed as 'a classic local race which mixes panoramic views, secret forest tracks and rocky descents'.
