The Multi-Purpose Multi-Terrain
A race in the heart of the Cairngorms with added interest for lovers of a good dram...
Whisky lovers with a running habit will be delighted to hear about the Touler 10K, a multi-terrain event that takes place on the Glenavon Estate in the Cairngorms and is sponsored by the Tomintoul Distillery.
Just think about it, a distillery tour of the area could be organised to coincide with this year's race which is scheduled to take place on 19 June - it's the perfect early summer getaway if malts and miles (running them that is) are your thing!
The course is undulating with a quarter of it hard trail and the remainder tarmac. Organisers say that: "in good conditions, a top club runner would win it in 32/33 minutes." But as you would expect with a race taking place in the heart of the Cairngorms, its setting is its selling point. Runners will head down the famously beautiful Glen Avon (pronounced A’an) with stunning views across to the Cairngorm Mountains and both the start and finish will be in Tomintoul.
Tomintoul lies at a height of 1170 ft and is the highest village in the Highlands. Located centrally in the Cairngorms National Park, Tomintoul proudly claims to be the North East gateway to the Park and is of course, especially famous for the distillery that bears its name.
