Virtual 'Runners Café' to celebrate Baxters Loch Ness Marathon weekend

Would-be marathoners can still be together virtually on race day

A virtual 'Runners' Café' will open at 5pm this Saturday, 3 October to mark what would have been the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon & Festival of Running weekend.

Held on the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon & Festival of Running Facebook and Instagram pages, the half-hour long virtual session replaces the popular pre-marathon event usually held at Bught Park, Inverness, the day before the festival of running.

The Runners' Café will be hosted by race commentator Bryan Burnett and will feature an exciting line-up of guests, including sports presenter Vassos Alexander; Runners' World head coach Tom Craggs; and Baxters Food Group innovation chef Darren Sivewright.

The virtual event will celebrate all the best bits of the Marathon & Festival of Running and look back at some of the runners' favourite Loch Ness moments, including, according to Burnett, “training tips, reasons to run and, of course, some brilliant memories”.

Organisers will also be giving away prizes – including a pair of Hoka Clifton 7 shoes, Baxters goodies and High5 nutrition packs – during the café.

Organisers are also encouraging anyone heading out for a run on Sunday morning to wear some tartan, an old Loch Ness Marathon T-shirt or event a Nessie hat to celebrate the spirit of Loch Ness on what would have been race day.

Runners should tag their best Loch Ness-themed efforts with #runlochness and share them on social media to be eligible for prizes.
