Be Great In Glencoe
Runners are invited to tackle Scotland’s wildest trails at this iconic marathon gathering...
Trail runners looking for a challenge like no other can mark 14 September in their diaries, as the Glencoe Marathon Gathering returns with two spectacular off-road routes through some of Scotland’s most dramatic Highland scenery. Organised by WildFox Events, the event offers a full marathon and a half marathon, each delivering awe-inspiring views, lungfuls of mountain air and a genuine test of endurance in the wilds of the North West Highlands.
The full marathon route begins at Lochaber Leisure Centre in Fort William and follows an ancient path through the rugged terrain to finish at Glencoe Mountain Resort. Along the way, runners will travel from the foot of Ben Nevis and pass through moorland, forest and mountains on their way to Glencoe. This is a route designed for those who want to swap tarmac for trail and trade city streets for open Highland vistas.
The half marathon starts in Kinlochleven and joins the full marathon course to conquer the infamous Devil’s Staircase, a steep and rocky climb that challenges even seasoned trail runners. Both distances finish at Glencoe Mountain Resort, where runners can catch their breath, celebrate their achievements and enjoy refreshments from the on-site café.
Now in its 11th year, the Glencoe Marathon Gathering continues to grow in popularity, attracting runners from across the UK and beyond. Organisers WildFox Events have spent over two decades creating endurance events that push boundaries and inspire participants. They told us: "With its epic routes and unforgettable setting, this is more than just a race - it’s a Highland adventure."
