Super Sunday at Shepshed 7
A full entry and ideal conditions at this scenic 7 mile race in Garendon Park.
Whilst the forecast was for wet weather on Bonfire Night, there were no damp squibs the following day (6 November) at the Shepshed 7. Instead, a well run, sold out race on a stunning course and a commemorative long-sleeved t-shirt for finisher with medals for kids in the Fun Run.
Sunday was the 21st outing for the Shepshed 7, a two-lap race in the private grounds of Garendon Park with permission granted by Persimmon Homes. The event was organised by Shepshed RC with a 1 Mile Fun Run at 10am followed by the main race for runners aged 16+ at 11am. The race started and finished at the Iveshead School, Shepshed.
Garendon Park lies to the west of Loughborough which was built on the site of a 12th century Cistercian monastery and includes the pleasure grounds and home farm. It contains three distinctive buildings – the Temple of Venus, Triumphal Arch and Obelisk. These together with the beautiful countryside made for a visually appealing and traffic-free run that was enjoyed by all.
Simon Birch of Hinckley RC was the winner in 37:35. Oliver Matharu of Holme Pierrepont RC was second in 40:03 and Mark Couldwell of Charnwood AC third in 40:29.
Amber Lester of Barrow Runners was the women’s winner in 44:30. Abigail Halcarz of Ivanhoe Runners was the second female in 46:01 and Carolyn Plateau third female in 47:23.
