New Race for Inverclyde
This new race aims to give something back to the Inverclyde community...
Inverclyde Athletic Club will be stagingĀ a brand new event in 2024 with the 7K Loch Thom Trail Race all set to take place on 5 June.
The race is being organised to coincide with Scottish Running Week and will raise funds for Athletics Trust Scotland which supports accessibility in athletics for disadvantaged communities including those with disabilities and importantly for the area of Inverclyde which does include many who are living in poverty.
A spokesperson from the club says: "Greenock town centre was found to be the most deprived part of Scotland in a 2020 study (SIMD) and Inverclyde was considered the third-most deprived council area in Scotland.
"This race raises funds to tackle poverty issues across Scotland and will support young people moving into athletics through targeted programmes, keeping young people on the right track."
Starting and finishing at Greenock Cut Visitor Centre, the evening race will see runners enjoy a 7K trail route round Loch Thom, a reservoir which has provided a water supply to the town since 1827. The price to enter the race also includes entry to a raffle (your bib will be your raffle ticket).
