FAB 5 Miler!
Don't miss out on the chance to be a part of this colourful summertime 5 miler...
Glasgow FrontRunners’ largest event and Scotland’s largest LGBTQIA+ race returns in 2024 for its 10th outing. Scheduled for 17 August, OUTrun is a fun and inclusive event that involves a 5-mile timed running event around the West End's Kelvingrove Park and along the scenic Kelvin Walkway.
The event starts at Kelvingrove Bandstand where a special guest will lead a fun group warm up, and then it’s a short walk to the start line. Race, jog, or walk it, it’s your choice. It is mostly a flat course suitable for all abilities, but there are a couple of small hills just to make it a little bit of a challenge, with the organising committee commenting: "We know that’s what you like!"
Adding some colour to proceedings this year's race t-shirts (which are included in the entry cost) will be blue to representing the light blue colour of the trans flag. Organisers say: "After the race, you’ll get a goodie bag, which includes this year’s stunning OUTrun t-shirt! We choose different colours of the LGBTQIA+ flag for the t-shirt each year.
"This year’s colour scheme is teal, representing trans people and their contributions to the LGBTQIA+ rights movement. We encourage runners to wear their club’s run kit for the race. After the race, you can wear this year’s OUTrun t-shirt which will be in your goodie bag!"
There will also be the usual post-race bake sale, so organisers would be delighted with any baked good offerings you might be able to rustle up! Donations from the sale will be going to Time for Inclusive Education (TIE), Scotland’s LGBT Inclusive Education charity. They work with schools across the country to embed LGBT themes into ordinary teaching and learning.
