Get Route Ready For The Great Scottish Run

Great Scottish Run runners can prepare for race day with a closer look at the very different challenges awaiting them on Glasgow's Half Marathon and 10K routes...

Our countdown to the 2026 AJ Bell Great Scottish Run continues, and this time it is all about knowing the route. With race day getting closer, understanding what awaits between St Vincent Street and Glasgow Green could help runners make the most of their remaining training.

Half Marathon runners face a course with two distinct characters. The opening section is predominantly urban, heading through Finnieston, across the River Clyde and along Paisley Road West before reaching Bellahouston and Pollok Country Park. Once inside Pollok, around three and a half miles of green space provide a change of scenery before the journey back towards the city centre.

Getting there requires some work. Miles two to eight gradually climb, with the toughest incline coming between miles seven and eight. The good news is that runners have then earned a predominantly downhill journey from mile eight towards the finish.

After leaving Pollok, the route returns along Paisley Road West, passes Festival Park and crosses the Clyde again. Mile 11 leads into the final riverside section, through the McLennan Arch and onto the welcome sight of Glasgow Green.

The 10K shares the St Vincent Street start and Glasgow Green finish but offers a more urban and potentially faster challenge. There is some climbing to 1K followed by a descent towards 3K, but the final 7K is relatively flat. Throw in four bridge crossings and a long riverside finish and there is plenty of Glasgow packed into six miles.

For Half Marathon runners, some hill and strength work could pay dividends. For those chasing a 10K PB, preparing to make the most of that flatter second half could be equally important. Race day is approaching, so now is the time to get route ready.

Entries are still available via the runABC race hub here.
