New Trail Run For Derbyshire

Trail running doesn't get much better than what's on offer at this new event...

With its sweeping views, historic landmarks and varied terrain, the new Derbyshire Dales Trail Run promises to be one of the Peak District’s most scenic running events of the year. Taking place on 14 September, the race will start from Bakewell Showground and offer three distances - half marathon, 15K and 9.5K, giving runners of different abilities the chance to experience the area’s spectacular landscapes.

The adventure begins on the Monsal Trail, where participants will run alongside the River Derwent with the grand silhouette of Chatsworth House in the distance. The route passes through rolling countryside and the picture-perfect village of Edensor before reaching the Golden Gates, which mark the approach to Chatsworth itself. Runners will cross the bridge to St Peter’s Church before heading into Manners Wood for a downhill sweep and a steady climb beneath its leafy canopy.

The middle sections of the course trace the banks of the River Wye and River Derwent, combining fast, flowing running with breathtaking scenery. From there, runners tackle fern-covered hills and navigate past the drystone walls that characterise the Peak District before looping around the reservoir that feeds Chatsworth’s historic waterfall. The final stretch leads back through the estate towards the finish, framed by the grandeur of the house.

Organised by UK Running Events, the Derbyshire Dales Trail Run will showcase the very best of the region’s natural beauty, history and variety, offering an unforgettable day on the trails in the heart of the Peak District.
