New Course for Run Cheltenham
Runners in Run Cheltenham's Half Marathon and 10K events will enjoy new and improved courses in the years ahead...
After months of hard work, Run Cheltenham has announced a new route for the 2024 event which will take place on 1 September. Organisers say: "We’re thrilled to announce changes to our Half Marathon and 10K routes for September’s event. You can expect no more racecourse loop, more town centre running with big crowds, more on course entertainment points and much more!"
The new route will retain key moments of the event, such as the iconic finish at Cheltenham Racecourse, the Sue Ryder Energy Zone along the Promenade and the run through Pittville Park, whilst removing the challenging racecourse loop. The new route will see runners spend longer in the beautiful town of Cheltenham, taking in the picturesque University Park Campus.
As well as a new route, runners can expect a host of new on route entertainment, including a new Safran Cheer Zone and additional bands, DJ’s and music groups from the local area lining the streets and supporting them to the finish. The new route has also allowed organisers to add an additional water station onto the course, with six water stations across the 13.1 mile route.
Event Director, Ash Fisher, says: “We’re thrilled to be announcing a new route for our September event and want to thank everyone who has supported us in reaching this point, especially everyone at Cheltenham Borough Council who continue to provide huge levels of support to the event.”
“The new route allows us to retain everything that made Run Cheltenham a fantastic event, whilst also addressing some of the feedback received after the 2022 and 2023 events. We have been working with our partners for many months now looking at ways to remove the racecourse loop, as this was the single biggest feedback point following the last few events and I’m pleased to say that this has now been achieved."
