Fast Five At Bassingham
If you have a need for speed this Lincolnshire race is the one for you...
This year's Bassingham Bash 5 Mile Road Race will be the 20th annual staging of the event, which also incorporates the Lincolnshire 5 Miles County Championships. The date for the diary is Sunday 3 August and as ever you will need to enter sooner rather than later as places are always snapped up quickly for this competitive race.
The reason it is so popular is because the course is fast and flat on quiet roads which is music to the ears of PB chasers and keen athletes alike who will be going for glory this summer.
With a course that takes in the pretty Lincolnshire countryside, the event is an integral part of the annual Bassingham Village Show which has many displays and attractions including food and drink outlets, so bring your family and friends along for all the 'fun of the fair'.
The race produces some of the fastest UK times for 5 miles across the age categories each year, with many race participants achieving PBs. Last year’s open race winners both set course records - Jordan Skelly of Lincoln Wellington AC clocked 23.29 while Gemma Steel of Charnwood AC achieved 26.28. There's over £700 of cash prizes for first three male/female senior and the first three U23 male/female and cash bonuses if the course records are broken.
All funds from the event are used directly to support Newark and Lincolnshire area young athlete development projects. In the last year this has included, training sessions, facilities hire, physiological testing support, travel expenses, and assistance with sport scholarships.
