A Little Reminder Of What Makes parkrun Special

With parkrun tourism booming, now is a good time to remember the simple principles that help make Saturday mornings special...

parkrun tourism has become a hugely popular part of the Saturday morning experience, with runners travelling far and wide to discover new courses and communities.

Recent reports of some popular seaside events becoming particularly busy provide a timely opportunity to revisit the parkrun Code of Conduct.

The message is simple. Listen to the briefing, respect everyone's way of participating, be considerate of the local environment and other people, bring a scannable barcode and always thank the volunteers.

parkrun has also introduced Responsible parkrunning guidance as tourism and unofficial challenges have grown. Visitors are reminded that every event depends on volunteers and that local teams cannot always accommodate special requests or challenges.

None of this means we should stop exploring. Visiting another parkrun is a brilliant way to discover new places and meet new running communities.

Just remember that you are a guest of that community.

And if you fancy giving something back, there is always one guaranteed way to make yourself welcome.

Volunteer!
