Ten Tough Miles Await At The Charnwood Challenge
The Charnwood Challenge returns on 4 October with runners and walkers tackling around 10 miles of testing trails through the Leicestershire countryside...

The Charnwood Challenge returns on Sunday 4 October 2026, offering runners and walkers around 10 miles of proper off road terrain through the Charnwood countryside from Nanpantan Scout Group HQ in Loughborough.
This is a challenge rather than a race built around fast, predictable splits. The route uses public rights of way and includes rough and uneven ground, rocks, mud, tree roots and wet grass alongside steep climbs and descents. Organisers have also highlighted erosion on sections towards Woodhouse Eaves and after the Dean's Lane crossing, making good footing and concentration part of the test.
Walkers set off at 9:00am before the runners begin with a mass start at 10:00am. A water station is positioned at approximately 5.5 miles near Broombriggs, although anyone expecting to need more is advised to carry their own supply. Organisers hope to have everyone safely back at event headquarters by 1:00pm.
There is also a strong Scout connection to race day. Every participant receives a unique Charnwood Challenge 2026 Scout badge designed by one of the group's young people, while refreshments are available back at headquarters after the hard work is done.
Younger participants are included too, with a one mile Junior Challenge Fun Run starting at 10:15am and a Junior Walking Challenge available for those aged 10 to 15 when accompanied by a parent or guardian.
For runners who prefer trails, changing terrain and a course where the stopwatch is only part of the challenge, Charnwood offers a very different way to spend an October morning.
Entries are available now via the runABC race hub.
