Love on the run at St Valentine's 30K

Loving it at St Valentine’s 30K

Runners said it with miles at this challenging race.

The hilly course was a labour of love for participants at the St Valentine’s 30K (Sunday 12 February) as they put miles in their legs ahead of a possible spring marathon. There was a slight change to the route but the lap of the field at the end was there to sap what remaining energy finishers had.

Love (of running) was in the air at the 29th St Valentine’s 30K where participants from across the country set forth on a course known for its ups and downs.

A well organised and marshalled event from Stamford Striders RC, it has become popular with runners preparing for a spring marathon with a chance to put all that training to the test.

The race started at 11am on an attractive route starting from Stamford Welland Academy which continued towards Little Casterton, Ryhall, Careby and Pickworth before heading back to Great Casterton, Little Casterton again then onto the finish at the school. Completing 30K or 18.64 miles in old money is no mean feat and there were plenty of runners taking pride in their achievement.

Robert Byers of Steel City Striders showed his mettle by winning the St Valentine’s 30K in 1:47:33. Alexander Brighton finished second in 1:48:05 and Luke Harrison of the host club third in 1:50:39.

Kanina O’Neil of March AC was the women’s winner in 2:03:30. Rachel Doherty of Higham Harriers AC was second female in 2:03:46 and Alice Thackray of Charnwood AC third female in 2:04:50.

All the results can be viewed via the runABC Race Listing page.

A long sleeved t-shirt and goody bag was the reward for each finisher and the opportunity to have a post-race massage courtesy of a team of therapists from Sue Ryder which was more than appreciated by most finishers

It was another successful outing for this tough race to get everyone in the mood for their spring marathon.
