Run on in, the water's lovely at the Sodbury Slog

Stiffen your spine and run Sodbury

When the going gets tough the tough slog on the finish.

Mud...water...hills...the Sheep Dip... the Pig Trough... This means only one thing: the Sodbury Slog is just around the corner with 10 miles of tricky terrain for participants eager to get in at the deep end. The off-road fun takes place on Sunday 13 November with a free mud pack for every runner.

There are people who pay an inordinate amount of money for a mud facial at a luxury spa but there is no charge for this at the Sodbury Slog. In just under a week’s time runners of all abilities will be caked head to foot and wet at this multi-terrain challenge with plenty of laughs along the way. Not an event for wearing pristine running kit although fancy dress is a popular choice and entertaining too especially through the obstacles!

If you like cross country you’ll love this race which often sells out – such is its fame - and makes a change from pounding the pavements. One of several events from Bitton Road Runners, the Sodbury Slog is an experience and one that is shared on social media and for many, repeated the following year.

The race is always held on Remembrance Sunday and begins with an exhortation then a two minute silence and the playing of the Last Post. Then off they go from Chipping Sodbury School, through the market town before heading out into the countryside and over (mostly) private land. This where you discover if your trainers are tightly fastened on...or not as the case may be.

Runners finish back at the school and revive tired minds and bodies with water, bananas and flapjacks.

There is a new prize structure for this year’s race. Find out more in the ‘News’ section on the Sodbury Slog website.

The ‘Pig Trough’ is in fine fettle thanks to the rain and ready to be churned up on Sunday 13 November. Bring on the Slog!
