Inspiring More People to Get Running
New partnership aims to encourage more people to take up running for their health and wellbeing...
In a bid to motivate its team members and the wider public to get active, STS Charity, the fundraising arm of South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust, has become the official health partner for the Sunderland City Runs and the brand-new Tidal Trails event for the next two years.
Athletics legend Steve Cram, founder of both events, met with STS Charity representatives to discuss how they can use running to promote physical and mental well-being. “Teaming up with STS Charity is a fantastic opportunity to spread the message about the benefits of running,” said Cram. “We hope to inspire people across Sunderland and South Shields to get active together.”
The Sunderland City Runs, including a half marathon, 10K and 3K, will take place on 11 May. Meanwhile, Tidal Trails makes its debut on 17 August, with family-friendly beach races and Paula Radcliffe’s Families on Track initiative.
The partnership also encourages NHS employees to take part, with many already signing up to run and raise funds for STS Charity. Among them is internal engagement officer Jade English, who is running the Sunderland City 10K to support the hospital unit treating her father for Hodgkin’s lymphoma. “Running has helped me stay positive during my dad’s illness,” she said. “This race is my way of giving back.”
If you fancy running for STS Charity at one of these events remember to check out GoFundMe and set up a fundraising page for your challenge.
