Hundreds Run For Hospice Funds

Steam over to Tunbridge Wells for the superb Hospice Run...

With an attractive Kent countryside course on closed roads, the 18th Hospice in the Weald Run on Sunday 15 September will be the biggest yet, with 1,000 participants and a charity fundraising target of £60,000 set by the hosts – the Hospice in the Weald.

Nice Work are the race management partners and you can still secure a late entry for the Hospice Run Half Marathon, Hospice Run 10K, Hospice Run 5K, or Hospice Heroes Family Fun Run via this link...

The half marathon course is a classic two-lapper from Tunbridge Wells Common taking in Bishops Down, Nevill Park, Broadwater Forest, and High Rocks, crossing the disused horse racecourse at Hungershall Park before the tough climb of Castle Road to finish on Lower Cricket Ground. There are around 1,200 feet of ascent/descent and if you are lucky you might catch a glimpse of the Spa Valley Steam Railway in action!

It's one lap for the 10K and a modified half lap for the 5K. Meanwhile, Hospice Heroes will tackle an adventurous route through Tunbridge Wells Common and around Wellington Rocks. Children are encouraged to dress up as their favourite heroes as they dodge the water and run one or two laps to the finish. Adults accompanying their children have free entry.

The Event Village opens at 08:00am. The Half Marathon will start at 09.15am, followed by the Family Fun Run at 09:25am, 10K at 09:45am, and 5K at 10:00am. Entertainment includes a live Samba Band, warm-up with personal trainer and running specialist Ollie McCarthy, a variety of food and beverages available, and the unbeatable feeling of supporting a wonderful cause.

Hospice in the Weald provides palliative care free of charge to patients with terminal illnesses and those important to them, in West Kent and northern East Sussex. The Hospice in the Weald is there 24/7 for anyone who needs physical, medical, and emotional support through their services. For more information visit the Hospice in the Weald website here.

Last year's half marathon winners were Mark Mellor (1:19:13) and Helen Gaunt (1:26:12). The 10K champions were Angus Currie (35:45) and Cath Gill (42:44) while the top 5K times were set by Elliot Green (17:04) and Florence Hallam (25:18).
