New Trail Run For Liverpool
Penny Lane Striders are planning a trail race this year, but you'll need to be quick...
You'll need to be quick off the mark if you want to run this one, but we think it will be worth making the effort as Liverpool's Penny Lane Striders have a great track record in organising events. In 2024 the club has decided to put on a brand new trail 10K, the PLS Trail 10K which will take place in the city's Calderstones Park on 15 September.
Speaking about their new event, a spokesperson from Penny Lane Striders said: "We are excited to announce a new trail race in Liverpool and its location makes it ideal for those looking to try out trail running for the first time." It is worth noting the wallet-friendly cost of entering the event with prices set at £3/£5 - a bargain these days!
Originally planned for Childwall Woods and Fields Local Nature Reserve, the race's new location of Calderstones Park in Liverpool is a great option for a trail race. Runners will set off from Menlove Avenue, near the old grass tennis courts and then enjoy a course that involves two laps of the park and follows well established paths.
Trail shoes are recommended as it may be muddy in places and, being a trail run, the surface will likely be uneven in places.
Calderstones Park is not just another pretty looking park. It's home to ancient megaliths that are said to be older than Stonehenge. This is in fact what the park is named after. And that's not all, within Calderstones Park, visitors will also find the extraordinary Allerton Oak, also known as the Law Oak. It is claimed that 1000 years ago the Hundred Court sat under its spreading branches - the trunk is now hollow and its branches supported by stakes.
