New 10K For North Tyneside
Greet the sunrise at this new 10K in the north east...
A brand new trail race is set to make its debut in December as the Run to the Rising Sun 10K comes to the Rising Sun Countryside Centre in Benton, Newcastle upon Tyne. The Greener Miles Running event will take place on 14 December with an early start designed so runners can greet the sunrise from the summit of Rising Sun Hill.
The course is faster and less challenging than some of Greener Miles other trail events, making it ideal for both novices and experienced trail runners. The route is traffic-free, fully marshalled and clearly marked, taking in well-maintained paths, grassy sections, woodland and one main climb before descending towards the finish.
Speaking about the event, organisers say: "The timing is designed so participants reach the hilltop around sunrise to enjoy panoramic views before heading downhill to complete the race."
The Rising Sun Countryside Park provides a spectacular backdrop. Once the site of a coal mine, it has been transformed into 162 hectares of green space with woodlands, grasslands, ponds and a nature reserve teeming with wildlife. With a farm, café and countryside centre on site, it offers plenty for runners and their families to explore once the race is done.
Finishers will receive an eco-friendly medal, free downloadable event photos and a packet of wildflower seeds. There will also be prizes for the top three men and women as well as veteran category winners. Refreshments will be available at the park café with additional water, chia charge and mountain fuel gels provided during the event.
