Great South Run just got Greater!
Great South Run pumps up the volume for its 32nd running
'Great just got Greater' is the bold claim from Great Run the team behind the 32nd Great South Run on 15-16 October 2022. That might just be a new world record for the use of the word great in a sentence but the historic and unique maritime atmosphere of Great South Run justifies all those superlatives. As the promotional video says it's Coast from start to finish; you'll enjoy your Victory moment and Sea what you're made of...Sea below to Sea for yourself!
Last year's Great South Run – 10 miles rather than the ubiquitous half marathon or 10K – saw
Eilish McColgan smash the women's course record on her way to a third Great South Run title in a UK record 50:43. Jack Rowe made a winning debut at 10 miles in 47:20 to take the men's plaudits. Around 16,000 completed the iconic course from Clarence Esplanade, Southsea to Portsmouth and back.
So what makes Great South Run even greater this year? New for '22 is enhanced on-course music and entertainment, with upbeat and quirky zones to keep your spirits and motivation high.
Run Thru is a high-energy and slightly bonkers zone guaranteeing a whole lot of noise. Think of 50 metres of absolute mayhem and you’re getting there. Runners have the option to Run Thru or sidestep this zone and stay in their own race zone.
Pump It Up zone will get those legs pumping that little bit quicker to the finish line. Powered by the awesome DJ Truck, motivation levels are going to skyrocket at this point on the route.
Beats Boost is another epic DJ Truck perfectly positioned to give you another burst of energy when it's needed most. Meanwhile, the People’s Playlist is a section with tunes chosen by runners themselves that provide their personal kick and will work for everyone.
Heart Radio will be broadcasting live and providing the ultimate party throughout the day with another awesome DJ Truck pumping out a high-energy set to get you all fired up at the start line.
Pacers powered by music will blast out tunes along the course to keep your motivation sky high
and the celebrations will continue long past the finish line with the brand new Après Run zone where runners, families, and friends can kick back, relax and enjoy the post-race buzz.
Of course, what's not new is also what draws 20,000 runners and tens of thousands of supporters back to Portsmouth and Southsea for the Great South Run every year, including the brilliant course on fully closed roads with unbeatable views; incredible charity fundraising exploits with millions raised for good causes; fancy dress runners wearing amazing costumes; elite athletes at the front and a full events programme with a 5K race and kids races on Saturday 15 October.
