It's Great To Run In Glasgow
Glasgow shines as thousands take on 2025 AJ Bell Great Scottish Run...
Glasgow played host to more than 32,000 runners on Sunday (5 October) for the 2025 AJ Bell Great Scottish Run, with tens of thousands more lining the streets to cheer them on. After a week of unsettled weather forced the cancellation of the Junior and Mini events on Saturday, conditions improved in time for the half marathon and 10K races.
Runners of all ages and abilities were able to take part, raising millions for charity, chasing personal bests and soaking up the atmosphere of one of Scotland’s most iconic mass participation events.
The city centre came alive with music, cheering crowds and the support of volunteers as runners set off across the River Clyde and over the Kingston Bridge before finishing at the famous Glasgow Green. Glasgow Warriors stars Rory Darge and Ollie Smith had the honour of officially starting the races.
In the half marathon, Jamie Burns of Shettleston Harriers impressed once again, following up his 2024 10K win with victory in the longer distance in 1:04:44. Weynay Ghebresilasie was second in 1:06:03 with Lewis Rodgers third in 1:06:31. The women’s title went to Katie Rourke of Gala Harriers in 1:16:49, ahead of Freya Ross in 1:17:54 and Nynke Mulholland-Stümmer in 1:18:07.
The 10K produced an equally thrilling contest. Scott Stirling edged out Tom Graham-Marr by four seconds to win in 30:14, with Fraser Gilmour just behind in 30:28. The women’s race was won by Jill Cherry in 35:40, with Josie Wren Golder (36:02) and Holly Little (36:21) completing the podium.
The AJ Bell Great Scottish Run will return on Sunday 4 October 2026. Entries are already open with a super early bird offer available until Monday 13 October. With this year’s event a complete sell-out, organisers are encouraging runners to sign up early to secure their place on the start line.
