Runners dig deep at Lode Half
Nick White struck gold at Sunday’s (3 November) Lode Half Marathon as he and over 200 runners put their best foot forward around the Fens. They ran in memory of Edward Shrubbs.
Fassage Hall was the Race HQ for the Lode Half Marathon that attracts runners from East Anglia, the Midlands and beyond. It began in 2011 as a joint venture with Lode Social Club to raise money for roof repairs and the fundraising continued after the Social Club closed down with most of the same helpers and core committee.
This community event raises funds for charities that have made a difference/helped someone from the village. Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust – Brain Tumour Research Fund was the principal charity this year, in memory of Edward Shrubbs who was one of the founder members of the Half Marathon and had been involved each year since 2011.
Lode Half Marathon and Family Fun Run took place on a dry, late autumn morning with a fast, flat course to look forward to, from Lode to Burwell. Nick White of Saffron Striders RC was first across the line in 1:20:55. Simon Darmody took second place in 1:24:32 followed by Edward Humphreys of Sexy Walrus Triathlon Club in 1:25:14.
Olivia Baker of Cambridge & Coleridge AC was the first female in 1:30:38 with Rebecca White of Saffron Striders RC second in 1:31:58. Erin Kelly was third in 1:39:25.
The organisers thanked their sponsors for their support and everyone who helped make the day a success.
