Shona Crombie-Hicks At Broadway Tower Race

Crombie-Hicks retains her title at Broadway Tower Race

There were monumental efforts by over 200 runners at the Broadway Hill Charity Run (To The Tower) on Wednesday (5 June) where Shona Crombie-Hicks was in winning form for the second consecutive year.

A member of Tewkesbury RC, Crombie-Hicks (VW45) started out as a jockey before switching to running. She won the Greater Manchester Marathon in 2000 and later qualified for the Commonwealth Games in 2006 where she finished in 16th place in the marathon. Shona has posted impressive times across a variety of distances ranging from 5K to 5 mile, 10K and half marathon and continues to run competitively.

The Broadway Hill Charity Run (To The Tower) was organised by Roger and Marianne Day to raise funds for Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven and a donation to ‘Doing it for Lottie’. Lottie is a local 6-year-old girl with a rare genetic disorder and has complex special needs, requiring specialist equipment.

Starting at 7.15pm, the runners followed a 5 mile route on multi-terrain with stunning views of the countryside that included Broadway Tower - an 18th century folly that is the highest castle in the Cotswolds.

Shona Crombie-Hicks won the women’s race for the second year in a row, finishing in 35:59 and beating her 2018 time of 37:27. Kate Le Chevalier of Pershore Plum Plodders was second in 37:51 with Heather Carson of Hook Norton Harriers third in 38:30.

The overall winner was Marcus Mumford of Evesham Vale RC in 32:53. Paul Childs of Black Pear Joggers was second in 33:25 followed by David Price of Worcester AC in 33:43.

Roger and Marianne thanked everyone for their support.
