One Wedding And A 10K
York 10K was back at the weekend with runners enjoying the scenic course and fun atmosphere more than ever...
It was a big weekend of running in York with the city’s 10K seeing thousands of runners taking to the streets on Sunday (4 August). Run For All's York 10K has been a firm favourite in the city’s event calendar since 2009 thanks to its inclusive and friendly ethos.
It also helps that it is described as one of the country’s most beautiful city runs, with the route offering participants the unique opportunity to race through the heart of the city past landmarks, including the ancient city walls, Clifford’s Tower and York Minster.
Close to 5000 runners took part this year, but it was Leeds City AC's Gavin Chalmers who won the race in a time of 31:49 he was followed by club mate Adam Baker in 32:18 and third place went to Aidan Daniel of Team Bath AC in 32:35.
In the women's race it was Barnsley AC's Eleanor Baker who won in 34:37. Second place went to Emily Sloanes of Driffield Striders in 35:54 and third was claimed by Wakefield District's Julie Briscoe in 36:46.
The Arena Group York Mini and Junior run also took place earlier in the morning. Families and friends of all abilities came together for a morning of sport and fun, choosing to run either the 1.5K course or 2.5K junior course. A great way for parents and children to stay active and healthy together, children were encouraged to fundraise for the event’s main partner charity, Martin House.
The race's celebratory mood was boosted further thanks to runners, Tom and Victoria (pictured) who were married on Saturday and then completed the 10K on Sunday. Speaking before the weekend's events they said: "We met back in 2016 and from our very first date, it was clear we shared a passion for running. We have participated in the Run For All events since their inception and attend a few each year including 10K's, half marathons and even a couple of the Yorkshire marathons between us.
"As we live in York, the York 10K is a 'not to be missed' event each year, and this year is no exception! We got married the day before and ran the event in wedding fancy dress with friends and family. The run went straight past our house so our kids and other friends and family were there to cheer us on, which made it really special."
A spokesperson from Run For All expressed delight in the day's race action: "We’re in awe of everyone who took part in the York 10K. Whether you were chasing PBs, raising money for charity or just having a laugh you are all amazing!"
Entries for next year’s York 10K, taking place on Sunday 3 August are now open.
