Lambton Castle Trail Races 2026

Exclusive Estate Trails Await At Lambton Castle

Private trails in County Durham...

The Lambton Castle Summer Trail Runs return on 16 August 2026, giving runners the rare opportunity to explore the private grounds of the historic Lambton Estate in County Durham.

Organised by Wild Deer Events, the popular trail running event offers 5 mile, 10 mile and 15 mile distances, allowing runners to choose a challenge that suits their experience and ambitions. The routes take participants through areas of the estate that are normally closed to the public, creating a unique race day experience in one of the North East's most impressive landscapes.

Set around Lambton Castle near Chester le Street, the courses combine woodland trails, grassy fields, firm paths and sections of private estate roads. The varied terrain provides a constantly changing running experience, with routes winding through parkland and historic estate grounds.

The 10 mile route follows a moderately undulating course through woodland and open countryside, while the 15 mile option builds on that challenge by incorporating the 5 mile loop to create a longer endurance test. Runners choosing the 5 mile distance can still enjoy many of the estate's scenic highlights on a shorter mixed terrain course.

One of the biggest attractions of the event is the venue itself. The Lambton Estate is known for its historic setting, mature woodland and expansive parkland, with runners occasionally spotting the wild deer that give the organising company its name. The combination of private access and natural scenery makes this a distinctive addition to the North East trail running calendar.

The event is also canicross friendly, allowing runners to take part with one well controlled dog on a lead throughout the race. Live chip timing, a bespoke finisher's medal and post race refreshments add to the experience.

Whether tackling the 5 mile route for the first time or taking on the 15 mile challenge, participants can look forward to a summer trail running adventure through one of County Durham's most exclusive and scenic locations.
