Foggy Running At Nottingham Christmas Marathon And 10K

Winter warmer at Nottingham Xmas Marathon & 10K

Freezing fog and icy temperatures kept runners on their toes (if they could feel them!) at Saturday’s (30 November) Nottingham Christmas Marathon & 10K. The first day of this festive multi-lap weekender was cold but gold for many.

The 10K was a new addition to this two-day event, joining the Marathon on Saturday in what were bitter weather conditions. Quite a few runners were muffled up to their eyes as they completed two laps (10K) or 8 and bit laps (Marathon) around the Regatta Lake at the National Water Sports Centre, Holme Pierrepont in Nottingham.

Sunday saw the Half Marathon, 5K and 1 Mile Fun with both days organised by Time2Run Events UK who ensured there was a race for every person irrespective of age or ability. They were held on a flat tarmac course that included a feed station and stalwart marshals braved the cold as they applauded everyone’s efforts. A team of pacers helped those targeting a PB.

In the Marathon, there was a first class win by James Ford of Loughborough Students AC in 2:42:34. Ben Harris of Retford AC was second in 2:44:14 and Johanna Oregan of St Neots Riverside Runners third in 2:45:20. She was the winner in the women’s race beating teammate Caroline Brooks who finished second female in 2:49:29. Virginia Silio of VPHTH AC came third in 3:13:45.

There was only one second separating first and second in the 10K. Euan Wilson edged it in 33:05 with Will Bowran of St Albans AC second in 33:06. Johanna Gurney squeaked through to take third in 34:22.

In a complete contrast...it was dry and bright at Sunday's event...
