The Beast Is Back
Popular race returns this autumn, with runners promised a test of endurance and bacon sandwiches as reward...
The Sutton Beast is set to make a roaring comeback this autumn as the much-loved 10 in the Fen takes place on Sunday 19 October from Brooklands Playing Field in Sutton-in-the-Isle, Ely. Organised by runners for runners, the event offers a choice of a 10K or 5K out-and-back route across the wide-open Cambridgeshire Fens between Sutton and Chatteris.
Known for its beauty as well as its challenging and often unpredictable conditions, the course promises both a test of endurance and a celebration of the unique fenland landscape.
This year marks 25 years since the Sutton Beast’s first event, with the team behind it also responsible for the popular Tony Robinson 10K, The Beast’s Big Colour Blast and The Mini-Beast. All finishers in both the 5K and 10K will receive a medal, while hot and cold drinks, cakes and bacon sandwiches will be on sale for runners and supporters. Groups of between four and eight runners can enjoy a 20% discount when registering together.
As well as the main race in October, The Beast’s Big Colour Blast has been rescheduled for 21 September at The Brook in Sutton. This family-friendly event is all about fun and inclusivity, with a lively warm-up set to music before participants tackle the course in a flurry of colour. Runners, walkers and dancers of all ages are welcome to complete as many laps as they like until the colour runs out. The fully marshalled, grass-based route guarantees safe, colourful mayhem for all.
