Run Through Dark Times
If you’re after an event that’s a little different then this could be it...
This November, dress in your brightest running kit and head to Market Harborough for five fun (and very dark) miles out through the Oxendon Tunnel at the Everyone Active Tunnel Vision Night and Dawn Runs. The popular night run starts at 7.30pm on 2 November and the Dawn Run gets underway at 6.30am on 3 November. You can enter one or both of them!
The night and dawn events are out-and-back, 5 mile races that are long enough to be a challenge for quality athletes and short enough to be achievable for less experienced runners looking to push themselves. Both routes take in the very long and very dark Oxendon Tunnel. At 422m long, the old railway tunnel really is an imposing sight and pitch black.
Organisers comment: "We’ve decided to light the tunnel (mood lighting only, you’ll still need a headtorch) and provide a unique opportunity for you to run through it, and back again! The Dawn Run has the added bonus of a sunrise to enjoy as well."
All finishers will receive a specially commissioned event medal and if you decide to do both runs, your medals will interlink. When you complete the Night Run you will also get a hot brew and biscuits; after the Dawn Run you will get a delicious glass of orange juice and a croissant. What could be better than that?
For 2023, the main focus of the event's charity support will be the Jubilee Foodbank, Market Harborough, and the Weston Favell Centre Foodbank, Northampton. Everyone who enters a Race Harborough event in 2023 will be given the opportunity to make a donation to support these good causes with organsers commenting: "We hope our event community will rise to the challenge and help make a difference to those that need it most."
