Tunnel 10K

See The Light & Run The Tunnel 10K

One of Liverpool's best loved events is back this April...

BTR Liverpool's Mersey Tunnel 10K is back on 14 April and so if you've always wondered what it would be like to run beneath the River Mersey then maybe 2024 is the year to find out!

This unique 10K race is a bit of a 'bucket-list' event for runners in the North West and it is easy to see why. This is a race that is blessed with a course that ticks lots of boxes - the novel idea of running through a tunnel as well as fantastic views on the other side.

Starting close to the entrance on the Liverpool side of the River Mersey, those taking part very quickly drop into the Kingsway Tunnel canopy as they head underground toward the Wirral Peninsula. Runners remain within the tunnel for just over 3K before emerging on the Dock Road, Wirral side to take up a flat and fast 5K stretch along the waterfront promenade.

The tunnel incline (what goes down must come back up) is but a fading memory as runners pick up the pace heading toward the old but much-changed Victorian resort town of New Brighton. The second half of the race takes runners along the promenade overlooking the River Mersey showing off the impressive Liverpool skyline at its best.

The race finishes on Ian Fraser Walk at New Brighton and some of the eagle eyed among you will have seen Ian Fraser Walk feature on a Channel 4 promo which shows wheelchair athletes racing along with the giant Channel 4 logo.

Baggage buses transfer belongings to the finish area once the race begins so all you have to do is get yourself to the start line. Organisers say: "It's great opportunity to run through the tunnel and experience a feat of modern engineering as you make your way from Liverpool to New Brighton with 1000s of other runners."
