Edinburgh's New Trail Event
There's a new kind of trail event coming to the UK, one that offers runners the chance to enjoy beautiful countryside routes combined with city convenience...
We previously reported on a new kind of trail race coming to the UK in 2025, but there are now some more details available for the inaugural Trail Escape Edinburgh event which will take place on 6 September.
Participants signing up to the exciting first edition will take on a trail marathon or 25K that starts from from Saughton Park, close to Edinburgh's city centre before following a traffic-free route along tranquil green corridors out of the city and head up into the stunning Pentland Hills.
Organisers say: "The views of Edinburgh and surrounding areas will be breathtaking. The return journey will utilise the same route to ensure a smooth and seamless final few miles back into the city and that well earned finish line. Escape city streets and explore the vast expanse of rolling hills, tough climbs, fields, reservoirs and woodland beyond. Immerse yourself in stunning landscapes you might never find alone."
At all Trail Escapes there will be an event village at the start and finish offering food, drink, and a place for family and friends to enjoy the event whilst you are running. We are told that this will be a timed event but not necessarily a race.
Organisers continue: "While there will be categories for fastest finishers, your goal is to enjoy running or walking on these incredible routes. Stopping to enjoy the views is strongly encouraged. Forget the pressure of chasing PBs or worrying about split times. Trail Escape is about enjoying the environment we are taking you through on your way to getting that medal."
Friends and family can support participants at the start and then take the train from Slateford Train Station to Curriehill Station and head out easily into the stunning Pentland Hills to see runners and hikers on the route. They will have enough time to be back for the finish and cheer the marathon runners through!
