Mysterious Running
Mystery, strategy and stamina all come into play in this unique event...
Test your navigation skills and your nerve this summer as The Mystery Drop comes to Shrewsbury on 27 June. Described as one of the most unusual races in the West Midlands, the event begins at St Chads Terrace before competitors are transported by bus to an undisclosed starting point.
The only clue is that the drop location will be around 15 miles from the finish in Shrewsbury as the crow flies, although runners are warned they are unlikely to be able to travel in a straight line and should expect to cover a greater distance.
Organisers told us: "To add to the challenge, participants must run or walk back to the finish without the help of phones or digital navigation! A unique concept in this day and age!"
At registration, runners will be issued with a GPS tracker, an emergency kit and a security sealed bag. All phones must be placed inside the sealed bag under supervision before boarding the bus, and competitors will wear blindfolds during the journey to keep the start location secret. The exact finish point in Shrewsbury will only be revealed once runners arrive at the drop site.
Organisers say the event is designed to reward instinct, problem solving and determination as much as physical endurance. It can be tackled solo or as part of a team, with teams required to have at least two members and all participants finishing for a result to count.
