Tewkesbury Half Marathon

Running Back In Time

This springtime half marathon offers a historic tour for its runners...

Step back in time this spring and do battle at the Tewkesbury Half Marathon which returns to Gloucestershire on 12 April. Set in one of England’s most picturesque riverside towns, the closed road race combines scenic views with centuries of history, offering a memorable experience for those chasing a personal best as well as runners soaking up the atmosphere.

Tewkesbury’s unique setting between the River Severn and the River Avon provides a striking backdrop, with the route weaving through charming streets, past waterside stretches and by some of the town’s most recognisable landmarks. Among them is the magnificent Tewkesbury Abbey, which has stood for nearly 900 years and provides a dramatic focal point for the event.

The race begins on Gloucester Road near Tewkesbury Leisure Centre, offering a wide, traffic managed start where runners can quickly find their pace. From there, the course takes in central and historic parts of the town before heading out towards more open suburban and rural sections. The terrain is mostly flat with a few gentle undulations, making it suitable for a range of abilities.

The final stretch brings competitors back along the High Street, with strong spectator support expected, before finishing close to the original start area on Gloucester Road near the race village. The layout allows family and friends plenty of opportunities to cheer runners on throughout the event.
