Dunstable Downs Challenge Half Marathon

Take On The Dunstable Downs Challenge

Self navigated Half Marathon across the scenic trails and countryside of Dunstable Downs....

The Dunstable Downs Challenge returns on Sunday 23 August 2026, inviting runners to tackle a rewarding Half Marathon across the beautiful trails, hills and countryside surrounding the iconic Dunstable Downs.

Organised by Dunstable Road Runners, the event starts and finishes at Creasey Park Community Football Centre before heading out onto a scenic route that explores the Downs and the surrounding rural landscape. Following mainly public footpaths and bridleways, with occasional sections on quiet country lanes, the course offers a varied and memorable trail running experience.

The Half Marathon follows the event's favourite challenge route and is self navigated, with GPX files available and their use encouraged. Checkpoints and guide runners at target paces help participants stay on course while adding a unique element that sets the event apart from more traditional trail races.

Licensed by the Trail Running Association and run under UK Athletics rules, the event includes a finisher's medal, supervised baggage drop, medical cover, drinks stations, parking, changing facilities and refreshments available at race headquarters. Entries on the day may also be accepted, subject to availability.

The combination of open countryside, panoramic views and varied terrain makes the Dunstable Downs Challenge a rewarding test for experienced trail runners while offering an enjoyable introduction to longer off road racing for those looking to step beyond road events.

Whether you're chasing a new trail running challenge or simply looking to experience one of Bedfordshire's most scenic Half Marathons, the Dunstable Downs Challenge delivers an adventurous day out in a spectacular landscape.
