Last Call For Thames Path Run
Go Beyond Grand Slam concludes with the Thames Trail Ultra...
Go Beyond Challenge has informed runABC that entries are still available for the Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc index race and concluding event in the 2025 Go Beyond Ultra Grand Slam on Saturday, 25 October 2025.
The Thames Trail Ultra, formerly known as the Thames Trot, is a 47-mile, point-to-point race beside England's longest river from Iffley in Oxfordshire to Henley-on-Thames, near the tri-point of Oxfordshire, Berkshire, and Buckinghamshire.
Last year's event saw 56 finishers in 11:46:13, with race victories for Joshua Chamberlain (6:59:21) and Katie Harris (8:32:20). The course records belong to Rob Payne (5:47:14, 2021) and Laura Swanton-Rouvelin (6:59:03, 2020).
Runners in the Thames Trail Ultra will enjoy the company of England’s largest river as it meanders past ever-changing scenery, beautiful houses, and traditional rowing clubs. Expect everything from tarmac paths to muddy trails on this interesting and challenging course.
The run follows both the Thames Path and Ridgeway National Trails, so entrants should be careful not to forget the words ‘National Trail’, rather than simply reading 'Thames Path'. The start is around three miles south of Oxford, at Hawkwell House Hotel, and competitors will join the Thames Path at Iffley Lock.
The route follows the towpath through picturesque Oxfordshire and Berkshire towns and villages, running through Abingdon, Wallingford, Pangbourne, and Reading before heading to the new finish at the YMCA Y Centre in Lawson Road, Henley-on-Thames. This means runners will have the luxury of access to hot drinks, toilets, and changing facilities at the end of the race.
The route is 86% trails and riverside paths, with 14% on tarmac roads. There is 289m of elevation and 321m of descent over the 47 miles. All runners will have Geo Tracks GPS Trackers. There are five checkpoints with water, snacks, and the famous Go Beyond Fruit Cake! Entry fees include the transportation of one bag per competitor to the finish.
