Run Like The Wind To Bag A Spot In This 10K
One of the country's best-loved 10K races has a new route for 2022...
One of Scotland's classic 10K races will be held over a new route for 2022. Strathaven Striders' Run With The Wind 10K is scheduled for 6 November this year and in a change to previous years will be using using quiet and undulating roads to the south of Strathaven.
Runners will enjoy a route that takes them through rolling farmland and as organisers have commented, 'perhaps most importantly, is not as exposed to the elements as our previous route'. A rural point-to-point race, the route is an undulating steady climb for the first 6 miles followed by a largely undulating downhill component and is accurately measured. You can check out the the route here.
The race will start and finish at West Kype Farm and will utilise facilities of the farm's indoor equestrian arena for registration, changing, post event refreshments and prize giving.
All competitors will receive hot soup and a roll with other goodies at the finish and, this year, those taking part can opt for organisers to make a donation to Trees for Life rather than receiving a t-shirt. The donation will be equivalent to the cost of a t-shirt and will fund a single tree in the Strathaven Striders Grove. Trees for Life is a charity with a vision to revitalise wild forest in the Highlands of Scotland, providing space for wildlife to flourish and communities to thrive.
A spokesperson from the Striders said: "We are aware that many of you have a drawer full of t-shirts and may prefer to make a contribution to the environment rather than adding another one to your collection."
