New Trail Race For Argyll
There's a new trail race set for scenic Argyll in 2023...
It’s always exciting to hear news of a new race for Scotland, and when it’s a trail race in spectacular surroundings then that’s even better! One event ticking both those boxes is the Ardgartan Trail Race which is set to make its maiden outing on 4 February 2023 and if the chat already buzzing on organiser, Rocket Events' Facebook page is anything to go by, it’s going to be a popular one!
Organisers are billing the event as a 21 mile foot race in Ardgartan Forest Park. The route is 90% off road and will follow a loop of the Ardgartan Peninsula, with some tarmac, forestry trails and a nice open hill section across to Lochgoilhead before the climb back up to the Rest And Be Thankful and the final downhill section to the finish. A spokesperson has said: “There will be hills and there will be waterfalls a plenty!”
Ardgartan means High Garden in Gaelic and indeed the Forest Park is is at the heart of an area of vast natural beauty. This race is a wildlife lover's dream with the forest of Sitka and Norway spruce making an ideal habitat for red squirrel, roe deer, buzzards and owls. Mixed woodland along the many small rivers and burns is home to otters, kingfishers and bats.
Rockets Events have form in organising fantastic, scenic races. They say: "Since 2011, along with our fantastic volunteers, we have been organising some of Scotland’s finest ultra marathon and trail races in the most beautiful of surroundings." These races include the Great Glen 73, Glen Ogle 33 and Glen Lyon Trail Race.
