On The Riverbank
Celebrate the Jubilee at this weekend's Goole Riverbank Challenge, which is back and with a new, more accesible distance...
Still looking for a way to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee this weekend? A 10K trail run along the banks of the River Ouse might be the answer as the Goole Riverbank Challenge makes its return on Sunday (5 June).
You may think you know this event, as it is one of the most popular and well-established races in the region, but this year organisers have put a modern-twist on an age-old classic, making the change to a more accessible distance. Previously an 8.73 miler, in 2022 runners will take on a 10K course with organisers promising that despite the distance change, the race will retain its 'quirk and charm'.
This is a flat and picturesque course on mixed terrain along the banks of the Ouse, with a quick blast through the village of Hook and is open to entrants 15 years and over with the ability to run or walk a 10K distance within a time frame of 1:30.
For the younger runners there will be a Fun Run on the same day, comprising a two lap flat grass route course around the circumference of the rugby fields at the Westfield Bank Sports Complex. The emphasis is on fun, so no timing or placement results.
There will be prize money for first, second and third male and female and age-group winners not to mention a goody bag for all finishers. But what most runners will be particularly delighted to hear is that there will also be a free sausage or bacon (vegan option available) butty to race finishers. Fun Run entrants will score a goody bag, commemorative medal and hot dog!
You can sign up by visiting the event website, but organisers have said that entries will be accepted on the day, if not sold out online first.
